Galena is situated in western Jo Daviess County. which forms the northwestern corner of illinois, bordering on Wisconsin to the north and the Mississippi River to the west. This city of 3,600 residents is rich in history with the home of the 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant and 85% of Galena listed in the Nabonal Register of Historic Places.
Directions to Galena:
From Chicago
Take 90 West to Rockford
In Rockford watch for Route 20 West (Freeport/Galena)
(Use the waterslides ahead and to your left as your marker for Route 20)
Exit to your right and follow Route 20 West through Freeport to Galena
From the NW Chicago suburbs the trip will take about 2 ½ hours
From Milwaukee
Take Route 43 SW to Route 90
Take Route 90 South to Rockford and take Route 20 (Not Business 20!!) West
Follow Route 20 West through Freeport to Galena
From DeKalb
Take Route 88 West to Route 39
Take Route 39 North to Route 20
Follow Route 20 West through Freeport to Galena
